Showalter Trout Pond and River Restoration – Design and excavation of fishery ponds and storage ponds.
0.5 acre fishing pond in East River Ranches in Crested Butte. This pond was also done with ½ mile of stream restoration and trout habitat improvement. The property owner wanted to transform the section of the East River into a fisherman’s paradise. There are several flow control and grade control structures to create trout habitat. Several large riffles and pools were created to hold large trout. Jetties and J-hooks along with boulder clusters were placed in the pools. This project required complex permitting and regulatory notices.
A large irrigation diversion was placed to divert flows into the trout pond. The diversion was designed and built to enhance the fishery at the point of diversion. The stream bank were all stabilized using j-hooks and riparian bio-remediation techniques.
